Housing Advocacy

Housing for All

Ensuring everyone in Ventura County has access to dignified, affordable housing.

Why housing advocacy?

The Housing Crisis at Home

Rising costs and systemic inequities affect our communities.

Housing in Ventura County is more than twice as expensive as the rest of the country, forcing many families to spend a significant amount of their income just to keep a roof over their heads. For Black and Latine residents, racial inequities worsen this financial burden—increasing their risk of eviction and living in overcrowded, unsafe conditions.

  • 7,455

Nearly 8,000 Ventura County students were considered unhoused in 2023-24

Our work is powered largely by our volunteers, and every day we’re able to count on even more people to pick up the phone and knock on doors when we need them.

  • 80%

Ventura County’s housing budget was slashed by 80%

Ventura County’s housing funds were cut by 80%, from 2022-23 to 2023-24, devastating resources for critical affordable housing.

  • 3x

Ventura County tenants must earn 3 times the minimum wage to pay rent

To afford a 2-bedroom apartment at the fair market rent, a tenant has to earn $46.42—about 3 times more than the state minimum wage.

Our Approach

Making Housing Happen

Because dignified, affordable housing should be within everyone’s reach.

Communities thrive when everyone has the chance to stay, grow, and build. By focusing on solutions that work for families and neighborhoods, we’re helping to make Ventura County a place we can all call home.

  • 01

    Advocacy & policy reform

We work closely with local governments and coalitions to pass policies that make housing more affordable and equitable. By influencing city budgets and addressing systemic barriers to housing, we ensure working-class families can afford to have a roof over their heads.

  • 02

    Community engagement

Through bilingual workshops and educational resources, we help community members understand and protect their housing rights. We also connect families to affordable housing resources and empower them to advocate for long-term, sustainable housing in their neighborhoods.

  • 03

    Housing partnerships

We partner with housing developers and local organizations to promote affordable housing countywide. This includes working with religious and community landowners under policies like SB4 to find creative ways to address the county’s housing shortage.

  • 04

    Voter mobilization

We organize voter outreach campaigns through phone calls and canvassing to build support for affordable housing initiatives. These efforts help drive critical ballot measures and create momentum for lasting housing solutions in Ventura County.
